This 45-minute session is designed for toddlers and their grown-ups, combining sensory play, art-making, and tactile exploration to spark curiosity and learning.
Children will sing, dance, create, and play in the gallery, with activities inspired by our current exhibition. Each month brings fresh ideas to explore, and all activities are easy to replicate at home using accessible, low-cost materials.
Pine Rivers Art Gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
September | The story of Indigo
Discover the magic of colour as toddlers explore the rich, deep tones of indigo. Inspired by Judy Watson's exhibition kau in kau in blood blood , children will experiment with mixing, dipping and layering shades of blue. Through guided sensory play and simple art-making, toddlers will observe how colours change and blend in surprising ways. This session combines imagination, storytelling and hands-on exploration to nurture creativity and early learning.
October | Where I belong: My map
In this session, toddlers will create their own maps inspired by the places and people that are important to them. Using drawing, collage and mark-making, children will explore ideas of home, journey and belonging. Familiar spaces such as parks, houses and pathways become starting points for storytelling through art. This session encourages children to share their experiences while building confidence in creative expression. Through playful exploration of shapes, symbols and materials, each map becomes a personal reflection of place.
November and December | Clowning around
Drawing inspiration from the marvellous world of the circus, participants will explore colour, movement, play, and gestural drawing to create their own imaginary circus landscape.
Artist Joe Furlonger visited Circus D’Hiver in Paris with his family – and was inspired by the bold, dynamic world of travelling family circuses around the world. He translated these experiences to his bright and lively paintings and drawings in the Circus exhibition.
Using big gestures, playful mark-making, and simple printing activities, little artists will create their own imaginative circus scenes filled with bright colours and lively characters.
