Privacy policy

What we collect, why, and what you can do about it, in plain language.

Draft, last updated 27 Oct 2026

This policy is a draft and is waiting on legal review before InfoKids launches. If anything here is unclear, email hello@infokids.com.au.

The short version

  • InfoKids is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information about children, and our forms don't ask for it.
  • There are no accounts. You can use the whole site without telling us who you are.
  • We collect only what you choose to send us (a newsletter signup, a listing, a message), plus a little technical information to run the site and stop spam.
  • We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it with advertisers.

Who we are

InfoKids runs the website at infokids.com.au. You can reach us about privacy at hello@infokids.com.au. We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect and why

Newsletter signups

Your email address, the city you pick, and any age bands you tick (such as “3–5”). We use them to send you the weekly email for your city and to choose what goes in it. Age bands are ranges, never your children's ages, names or birthdays. A new signup starts as unconfirmed, and before we send the first issue we'll email you a link to confirm your address. Every email will include an unsubscribe link.

Listing submissions and messages

What you type into the submit-a-listing form or the contact form, including your name and email. We use it to review and publish listings and to reply to you. The listing details you send (such as the event name, dates, venue and description) may be published. Your name and email are not.

Spam protection

When you send a form, we store a one-way, keyed hash of your IP address with it, not the address itself, so we can spot repeated abuse. Our servers also keep a short-lived count of recent submissions in memory to slow down floods.

Analytics

We don't run analytics yet. When we add them, we'll choose a privacy-friendly service that doesn't use advertising cookies or build profiles of you, and we'll update this policy first.

Server logs

Like any website, our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) for security and troubleshooting, for a limited time.

Cookies and storage on your device

  • ik_city is a cookie that remembers the city you picked, so you see that city's listings. It holds only the city name (for example “sydney”) and lasts a year.
  • ik_saved lives in your browser's local storage and holds the events and places you save with the heart button. It stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.
  • We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Children

InfoKids is designed for the adults who look after children. We don't offer accounts, our forms don't ask about children, and we ask people not to send us children's names, photos or other details. If you think a child's personal information has reached us, tell us and we'll delete it.

Who we share it with

We use service providers to run the site, and they handle information only to provide that service to us: website hosting (Vercel) and our database (Supabase, hosted in Sydney). Some providers may process information outside Australia, for example on their global networks. When we start sending email, we'll name our email provider here before the first send. We'll disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Newsletter details stay until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only what we need to make sure we don't email you again. Submissions and messages are kept for as long as we need them to handle your request and keep a record of where a listing came from.

Your choices

  • Ask to see or correct the information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@infokids.com.au.
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, with the link in any email or by emailing us.
  • If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy before we add accounts or anything else that collects more information, and we'll review it against the Children's Online Privacy Code once that code is registered. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
