The Powerhouse Museum (MAAS)  is a great place for your child to be educated on things; within and beyond the solar system. Its purpose-built environment allows children to create their own learning experience. Give your child an opportunity to dig deep into the science realm so they can view the world more interestingly. Here is a list of some family-friendly events at MAAS.

    Family-Friendly Twilight Tours

Twilight Tours is a permanent exhibition, it runs every day for 90mins. This Family-friendly event is suited for all ages, with plenty of hands-on activities for the children. It starts off inside the Observatory building at 6.30 pm or 7.00 pm. In this tour, you will be able to use a telescope to view the solar system more intricately. Your children will go home talking about planets and constellations for a long time.

  1. Fantastical Worlds

Be amazed by the talent and creativity of our artists and designers at Fantastical worlds – between the 7th of August – January 2020. This event will be held at the Powerhouse Museum. At this event, you will see an array of historical/contemporary creations. Your children will be in awe of how these creations were formed, this will change their perception of the world.

  1. STAR WARS™ Identities: The Exhibition

This is an interactive exhibition, that will open on the 16th of November at the Powerhouse Museum. In this exhibition, you will be able to build your own STAR WARS™ character and thanks to Lucasfilm archives you will also learn the true characters of STAR WARS™ – Through original items and artworks on display. This is an exclusive event not to be missed, especially if you’re a diehard STAR WARS™ fan.

To stay in line with the Star Wars theme MASS has a Kids friendly event – which teaches your children the natural resistance of force that occurs through muscular and gravitation. This event is located at the Powerhouse Museum and is free with general museum admission. There will be a hands-on experience for your children to learn – How Physics and technologies work together.

  1. Mass Minis (Ages 3-5years)

Mass Minis is an event, designed for our little ones. A place where our small curious creators can venture into the world of arts and science. This event happens once a month on Mondays and usually goes for 1 hr.

  1. Minecraft EDU (Ages 7-9)

This workshop is sure to please all Minecraft enthusiasts. A family-friendly workshop and a perfect place for the children to spend their time during the holidays. Located at the Powerhouse museum – The children will learn to work together; to create their own Mars Lab in Minecraft. Minecraft EDU starts on the 21st December – January 29th from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm.

  1. Observatory Adventure Day (6-7)

Calling out to all young scientists! This is a one-day workshop, available on the 4,8,14 and 25th January between the times of 10.00 am – 4.00 pm. On these days, you will find plenty of great activities that will enlighten any young minds. Come down to the Sydney Observatory for a fun-filled day.

This is a one-day messy workshop, allowing your children to learn through their sense of touch. There will be a hands-on experience with different experiments. It will be open on the 4th, and 15th of January from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm. Located at the Powerhouse Museum.

  1. Mini Music Maker (Ages 6-7)

We all know that music does wonders to the brain, so MASS has a one-day workshop that will be filled with music activities. During the session, your children will learn to work together with other participants on the day. If you are an aspiring musician, then you are in for a treat because you will be able to invent your own electronic instrument – to show off to your friends. This is a 6 hrs workshop – opening on the 4th and 24th of January. Located at the Powerhouse Museum.

Powerhouse Museum has discounted parking options with the following providers:

Darling Square Car park, located at Zollner Circuit, Haymarket. 
Discounted $12 weekday and $8 weekend all-day parking is available for Powerhouse Museum visitors. To obtain the discount, your parking ticket must be validated at the designated machines located at the Level 1 and 3 admission counters before returning to the car park.

Wilson Parking (adjacent to Novotel Sydney Central), 179 Thomas Street, Haymarket
